At a distance of 13 km from Edipsos, above the village of Ilia in North Evia, we find the Monastery (a convent today) of St George of Ilion.

The history of the monastery is lost in the mists of time.
It was built near the ancient temple of Apollo-Helios.
The monastery suffered serious damage during the Turkish occupation.
It has been renovated fairly recently.
It is of an admirable architecture and situated in a magical location, deep in a dense forest.
