The archaeological tour of Evia includes visits to some of the most important towns of Ancient Evia.

Edipsos – Chalkida

Edipsos was, due to its therapeutic springs, a very important spa town and flourished during the years of the Roman Empire. In the spas we find exhibits of coins, Ionic capitals, Greek and Roma relieves etc. The actual Roman spas still exist.

In Orei there are many archaeological findings from the 4th c. BC and quite a few Byzantine buildings.

Near Mandoudi we find the town of ancient Kirinthos, which prospered during the Mycenaean era (1650-1050 BC).

The settlement of Manika in Nea Artaki displays finds dating from 3000-2000 BC.

Chalkida
archaeological finds dating from the 16th and 15th c. BC prove that the first settlements in the area date back to that era. Chalkida played a leading part in the creation of colonies during the 7th c. BC. The archaeological museum of Chalkida and the vaulted Mycenaean tombs in Dokos are worth a visit.

Lilandio – Eretria

8 km from Chalkida, in the middle of the Lelantine Plain, we find Lefkandi – a town that developed during the Bronze Age (2700-1100 BC), as many of the archaeological finds prove.
From 700 BC onwards Eretria, 22 km from Chalkida, developed into an important maritime power. In the archaeological site of Eretria we find a great number of important finds: The remains of an ancient wall that surrounded the citadel. The Monument that was built in the 8th c. BC and the Palace, built in 400 BC. The ancient theatre from the 5th c. BC with its vaulted underground gallery that connected the stage and the orchestra. The Temple of Apollo. The Museum, with exhibits from different eras found in nearby sites.

Amarinthos – Aliveri – Avlonari

In Amarinthos, a few km south of Eretria, there is still an ancient theatre, a temple of Artemis and other sights.

Further south, in Avlonari (67 km from Chalkida) we find various remains: from a Neolithic settlement and from the Classical and Roman era.

Kimi – Skyros

In Oxilithos (87 km from Chalkida) we find a settlement dating from the Protohelladic period as well as vaulted tombs from the Mycenaean period.

The island of Skyros (22 nautical miles from Kimi) is connected with the mythical hero of the Trojan War, Achilles. The archaeological museum displays exhibits from different eras, ranging from 2500 to 400 BC.
